Éric L Farrell (www.stagepoet.com)
– is a professional performance poet and national author, credited with a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor's Degree from Virginia Union University. This Woodbridge, VA based Winner of Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam is a full-time poet and has performed as far wide as Italy and Kenya, and also with Grammy Award Winning gospel artist Shirley Caesar and Grammy nominated Kurt Carr (and The Kurt Carr Singers), and has also opened for other Grammy nominated artists Byron Cage, Tye Tribbett & G.A., Canton Jones, and gospel hip hop's T-Bone. Farrell's "ONE BARBER" and "ONE STYLIST" poetry posters hang in over 5,600 barbershops and salons as he continues his national ONE BARBER Shop Tour to honor these hair care professionals for the positive role they play in the community. In addition, his "One Mechanic" poster currently hangs in over
over 1,700 auto shops.
As well as producing and performing five ticketed shows of his own 2 hour stage performance, "Sidewalks Are For Kids" (poetry containing elements of comedy, drama, sermon, rap and romance | www.sidewalksareforkids.com), Farrell is believed to be the first poet ever to release a full stand-up poetry performance on video ("Sidewalks Are For Kids" DVD). Aside from this production, he has produced other shows and events of his own, and has been sponsored by over 30 companies, including State Farm Insurance, Mary Kay Cosmetics, and RE/Max Allegiance Realty. He has received a level of support that few other poets have received during their time, and is also fortunate to have thousands of supporters of various ages, ethnicities and backgrounds.
Earlier in his career, while attending his Alma Mater, Virginia Union University, Farrell and college roommate Will Holmes Jr. founded E&W Collaborations (1999) – an online Christian ministry of poetry (www.ewcollaborations.com). And as an author of Emaculate Publishing, he has released two books nationally, "Seeking Solace: Finding Peace and Comfort in Times of Distress" and "Verbalizions of Enlightenment: The Secret to the Pain," which broke many demographic barriers and was even studied as course material for a full semester at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Some store managers of major book chains credited him as their most successful book signing, and contrary to industry convention, have welcomed him back for monthly signings. Farrell was featured on gospel hip hop album "Fearless" by Rory Lyon and was the first poet to be featured on a compilation CD by Gospel Truth Magazine.
In addition, he's the founder and host of WordStage Poetry Lounge, which ran from 2002-2006 at a Barnes & Noble in Richmond, VA and 2004 to 2006 at a Books-A-Million in Washington, DC. He also founded and hosted WordStage Poetry TOUR, WordStage Poetry Workshop, and WordStage Poetry KIDS (aimed at increasing public speaking confidence and a positive and purposeful self image | www.wordstage.net). Farrell has also been featured in many magazines, newspapers, radio, and TV, and on May 30, 2007 released his debut poster featuring his honorary poem "One Barber" in tune with his goal of helping people realize their true purpose as individuals.
